Obituary for Richard Kevin Kavanaugh

Albany - Richard Kevin Kavanaugh passed on at Van Rensselaer Manor on November 2, 2017, after a courageous acceptance of a long illness.He was born n Buffalo on February 23, 1945 and graduated from Bethlehem Central High School, class of 1964. Richard served in the U.S. Army as a communications specialist in Berlin, Germany from 1966 to 1967. He returned home to pursue his career as an electrician graduating from H.V.C.C. in 1969. He was an active musician in the local folk music community and spent much time involved at historic Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs, where he served as board president after the passing of Lena Spencer.

Richard is survived by three children, daughter, Patricia Kavanaugh Lyons and husband, Mike of Austin, Texas; daughter, Melissa Kavanaugh of Latham and son, Michael Kavanaugh of Guilderland; sister, Karen Kugleman of Bonita Springs, FL and brother, Robert Kavanaugh of Saratoga; as well as three nieces and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by parents, Jane (Cabana) and Lawrence Kavanaugh; brother, Lawrence Kavanaugh and son R. Thomas Kavanaugh.

Family and friends who wish to call may do so on Sunday, November 5, from 12 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 85 Bloomingrove Dr., Troy, NY 12180 or Caffe Lena, 47 Phila St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
